Where in the world is there a 1950s lifestyle AND green community feel? What would you like to ask?

I really like to live somewhere with a small community feel, less reliance on cars, rather trains and buses, somewhere that feels homely and safe. A nice place for children to grow up..

Does it exist?

The Midwest still relies on cars quite a bit. Are you limiting your answers to the US, or are you open to other countries? Here is the US, most of the places with a dense transit network are also densely populated and therefore don’t seem as safe. But, just because a place feels safe, or unsafe, doesn’t really mean much. I would imagine plenty of places in Europe have low crime rates and good transit, as well as plenty of green space and good schools.

But if you are only talking about the US, Minneapolis was recently ranked the safest city by Forbes.com: "The metropolitan area took the No. 1 rank of America’s safest cities, ranking in the top 10 in all four categories, including low crime rate, workplace fatalities, traffic-related deaths and natural disaster risk." But we do not have a "good" transit net work by any means. One train line now, another opening soon and lots of buses, but still way too many cars and little parking, in my opinion.

"Milwaukee, Wis., Portland, Ore., Boston and Seattle rounded out the top five safest cities on the Forbes’ list."
