which lifestyle do you prefer: urban, suburban or country?
March 10th, 2010
I was born and raised in New York City, and became quite sick of the crowds. When I first moved out west, some cities seemed like the country in comparison.
Having moved around quite a bit, I find that I like country best–but not terribly far from conveniences.
What kind of lifestyle can someone who makes $90,000 a year alone afford?
March 10th, 2010Were doing career exploration at my school and my chosen career makes about that much. Im just wondering how you can expect to live. Say there was a married couple and they made about $150,000 a year. Are we talking… high class family or normal family with little luxuries? White picket fence family or more grand than that?
It depends on where you live — cost of living varies dramatically across the nation. You might be able to afford a small, not very convenient apartment in New York, NY on that salary, where you could buy a nice house on a quarter acre lot in a good suburb in Houston, TX for the same income, or a multi-acre plot with a nice house in rural Montana. Other expenses can also vary dramatically; cost of food, gas, utilities, etc., can greatly modify your budget.
On average, I would tend to say that a family with $150,000 income would likely be considered lower upper class, however.
Trains ran on time, people were encouraged to have an active lifestyle, mothers were appreciated for the work?
March 10th, 2010they do.
So where did the Nazis go wrong?
By the way, Yahoo’s suggested category for this question was the "gay tranny" section.
Well having a grudge against anyone who was’nt Germanic..invading countries and killing the occupants.
Kidnapping and locking people up without trial(and then killing 6 million+ of them).
They were totally evil!
We should be proud our Fathers/Grandfathers put an end to them!
I doubt if they were around today we’d have the freedom of speech to even have a place like Yahoo Answers to discuss stuff like this.
it’d be more like .."yahoo you vil anzer ze question!"
cost of living in dubai; can anyone (w/small family) getting US7k/- survive with a decent lifestyle ?
March 10th, 2010I’m worried about two major problems; dubai has become notorious for it; i’m wondering if there is an easy way out..
1- Accomodation — can anyone find accomodation within AED40k-50k/annum within dubai
2- If not; what’s the cost benefit ratio of living close to the centre while avoiding the rush/traffic while living in ajman/sharjah and coming to dubai ..
Please guide me friends
Dear Friend
This question has been asked many times on answers.yahoo therefore i suggest you to kindly go thru all the answers. But for ur reference: -
1.The cost of rent for a 1 bedroom apartment will be somewhere around ADE 70,000(minimum) p.a. and you will need to pay it completely in advance (if u get 2 instalments u r lucky) for a reasonable location. If you live in Sharjah u can get 1 Bhk in ADE 40-50k easily but travelling from Sharjah to Dubai will be somewhere about 1-1/2 hrs. Ajman is even further.
I wont suggest you to put up in Sharjah/Ajman cos ur salary is sufficient enough and you can definitely save even if u put put in Dubai.
2.House hold expenses (including travelling )vary depending upon ur habits but for 3 people (assuming)moderate spending will cost ADE 36,000 p.a.
3.school fee will be again dependent on which kind of school u want to send ur kid (also nationality matters eg u want to send ur kid to Indian/Filipino/other school) ADE4,800 to ADE 18,000 pa
how can make my lifestyle more interesting?
March 10th, 2010I am 55 years old, married with one son, aged 25, employed and living separately.
I wake up at 6 in the morning. At 6:30, I am out with my bicycle for a 45 minutes vigorous ride to the beach and back home. I cover 15 kilometers or 9.30 miles
At 8, I have the second cup of tea of the day and go through two newspapers.
I have my shower at 8:45 and breakfast at 9:00.
I work from home, and I am at my desk at 9:15
At 1:00 I have my lunch and lie down for 30 minutes reading news paper. A short while later, I doze off.
After a half hour siesta, I have my tea and am back at my desk at 3:00 PM.
I work until 6:00 and then I go to a near by swimming pool for an hour of vigorous swim (40 numbers 25 metre laps.)
At 7:30 in the evening, I begin to have my whisky on my bedroom balcony. My wife and I talk about the day’s days events during that time. I also make a few phone calls to my friends.
By 10:00, I have had 240 ml of whisky (0.89 UK Pint, 0.5 US Pint, or a little over 8 fluix ounces) , I am reasonably tipsy and have my dinner. At 10.30, I am off to sleep. Thanks to the whisky, the moment I put my head on the pillow, I go off to sleep.
(For those of you who may think my alcohol consumption is excessive, I have my LFT – liver function test – done every six months and my liver enzymes (SGOT, SGPT, GGT, etc;) are within normal range. I am not diabetic, my BP is normal, I am not overweight and I am in great physical shape. I eat a very healthy diet consisting of a variety of vegetable and fruits, fish and moderate amount of carbohydrate. I avoid red meat, eat very little chicken and our consumption of cooking oil (fat) is minimal. Alcohol is my only vice, but it makes me happy, relieves my stress and gives me a general feeling of well being. I don’t smoke)
I seldom watch TV.
On Wednesdays, I go to my Rotary Club meeting. After the meeting, I drink with my fellow Rotarians and discuss current evens.
Once a week, I meet my friends – one is a doctor and other is a professor – over drinks again, and come back home in time to go to sleep.
I used to go to my club twice a week, but now I don’t go much because I do not find the conversation there interesting. I find being with my wife more enjoyable.
I do not like travelling.
I have a beautiful home and lovely garden, and gardening is my hobby. It gives me great happiness.
I enjoy good health.
Now, how can make my lifestyle more interesting?
Thank you for taking the time off to read this long post.
A bit of time set aside in helping others, by, perhaps, volunteering for, say, a big brother program, or visiting seniors at a rest home, or some such thing, is most beneficial and fulfilling.
Did Frank Lloyd Wright have an autobiography about his philosophy and his ideal lifestyle?
March 10th, 2010Or are there other books about the Frank Lloyd Wright lifestyle?
Yep. It’s creatively entitled "Frank Lloyd Wright: An Autobiography" but it rates 5 stars. If you’re a Wright fan as I am, read it.
What breed is good for our life style?
March 10th, 2010Hello Everyone.
My husband and I are thinking about getting a new dog. We want to insure we get the right dog for our life style. We live live in town and have a 50×50 ft back yard. Wwe both work Mon-Fri with time to spare for the pup after work and on the weekends.
We were looking at a beagle/basset hound mix. But was warned that they howl a lot and are hard to potty train. I am fine with training the dog that is part of having a puppy but the howling bit all of the time is no good.
Any information that can be provided would be wonderful. I just want to insure that we pick the right breed of dog for us. I feel too many people rush into getting a dog which inturn can become an ugly situtation for the owner and dog.
Thanks…..
I would advise doing some research on this. There are a lot of other things to take into consideration also. I have a 3 year old pug who I got when he was 6 weeks old. I read about every breed in a dog breed book before deciding on him. My husband said he had to be small and I didn’t want a barker or howler.
Also consider how much exercise/ activity the dog will need and how active you are. Do you want a dog that likes swimming, boats, traveling, etc?
What is the best way to live a healthy life style?
March 10th, 2010whats the best foods and enviroments? be specific ![]()
well as you’d no the curagh at the army barracks is the top place for guides on this stuff around ireland
when i was in the curagh they had me on a diet of
chicken, pasta, fruit, veggy burgers, fish and with them i had to take a side of corn peas or salad
this helped me alot to get fitter and feel better and stronger when worker
so i’d say stick to fruit and veg and still have your normal meals maybe 3-4 times a week because your body won’t like to completely change it’s intake all at once
all there foods were from local farms and we also have running sessions on the plane’s (fields) to help burn the unwanted fat to muscle
hope this helps
What’s the guide to a balance lifestyle?
March 10th, 2010
so glad you asked!
Try the acronym N-E-W-S-T-A-R-T developed by the Weimar Institute for Health.
N- stands for Nutrition. Eat a really healthy diety made up largely of plant-based foods and eat as much ripe, fresh, raw, juicy, lovely, organic fruits and vegetables as you can afford. Cut down or eliminate dairy, eggs, and other animal products– just too many contaminants in them to take the chance these days if you really want to experience great health and balance. Elilminate highly processed foods from your diet (sugars, transfatty acids). Eat when you are hungry but not after 8 p.m. Eat with other people (positive people) and be grateful for the food you have to nourish your body with.
E- stands for Exercise: Do the exercises that you enjoy and you will stick with them longer. Exercise every day. You can read about the benefits of exercise all over the Web.
W- stands for Water. Drink clean, filtered water. Cut down or eliminate caffeine, soda, highly processed fruit drinks, dairy and other non-nutritional drinks from your life– water is the best!
S- stands for Sunlight. Get out in it whenever you have a chance. If sunlight is hard to get, go somewhere brightly lit during your day and be with other positive people. Sunlight is great and promotes wellbeing because of the Vitamin D that it helps your body produce.
T- stands for Temperance. Moderation in all things. Strive to live a balanced life: one of peace and prudence, vs. spiking and crashing, spiking and crashing.
A- stands for Air. Breathe properly. Get out in the fresh air as much as you can (gardening, walking, etc.) Protect your family’s air supply: ban smoking and noxious chemicals from your house.
R- stands for Rest. Get your 8+ hours of quality rest in each day. Remember that 1 hour of sleep before midnight=2 hours after midnight. Find ways to destress (exercise, as above).
T- stands for Trust in God/Higher Power- the real key to balance for most of us.
All the best!
